So you’re thinking of hiring me as a mobile session musician?

That’s great. Here’s a quick FAQ

Are you currently available to work at X studio?

I’m currently at home doing all my work from here until I get my vaccine.

How do I start the process of getting you to play on my tracks?

Read this FAQ and then Email me! abuchheister@gmail.com

What tracks have you played on?

You can check out my pedal steel demo reel or my discography page. So many tracks from so many genres!

How much do you charge?

I try to keep my fees as reasonable and accessible to anyone of any income bracket. If you are worried that I might charge too much you should reach out anyways and we will figure something out. Let’s make it HAPPEN!

How many revisions do you include?

Unlimited. I try to do work I can be proud of. When you’re happy I’m happy!

What if I hate everything you do?

Then you don’t have to pay me! I can gladly refer you to someone else who might be a better fit. I’ve had to do this…once…..No hard feelings!

What instruments do you play?

I’m mainly a guitarist by training but I record LOTS of Pedal Steel. I can also do Dobro, Mandolin, Electric Bass, some simple but effective keyboards, can help with arranging, string arrangements, mixing, songwriting, creative work, etc.

What is your turnaround time like?

I usually try to set expectations and a deadline when we start working together. I thrive on deadlines. If you need your project done the same day just let me know and I can usually accommodate your timeline.

How do I convey what I want you to do on my track?

This is a big one. First thing is I think it’s more fun to let me take a stab at it first without too much information. You might be pleasantly surprised! Or you might hate it and have very specific vision of what you want me to do on your track. No sweat! You are welcome to send me references; links to spotify or youtube with similar vibes that you’re looking for. You are also welcome to do a facetime call with me while I work on your track and we can figure it out together in the moment!

How do I get files to you?

You can email me a mix, or use Dropbox or Google Drive, We Transfer, etc.

What kind of files do you want?

You can send a mix, you can send stems, you can send individual tracks. Up to you! If I need something different I will let you know!

You can send mp3’s or wavs or aiffs at nearly any sample rate or bit depth. Usually working in 24 bit 44.1k or 48k

If your project was recorded to a click track let me know what that BPM is.

Most importantly if we are doing remote production the MOST IMPORTANT THING is that our files line up when sending them back and forth. So MAKE SURE you export your song from the BEGINNING of your project. Even if there is silence or talking or noise. That way my part will line up in your session when you drop it in! If you are sending multiple tracks from the same project (stems or tracks), before you send it over drop those files into a new project and make sure they all line up with each other. It’s very easy to get that wrong and nearly impossible to fix on my end.

How do I pay you?

Venmo is usually easiest. I also do Paypal but that’s a bit easier to mess up and end up paying fees.
